An international concert and congress centre in the heart of the Savo region.

Kuopio Music Centre is among the elite of Finnish concert and congress halls but is also so much more. Like a caring mother bird it spreads its protective wings over the Kuopio music scene, offering a nest to the Kuopio Symphony Orchestra and lending its shelter to several grateful visitors annually. The building also provides educational facilities for future professionals of music and dance, who help ensure that the house leads a modern life, remaining youthful without becoming old in spirit.

Kuopio Music Centre, designed by Esa Malmivaara and Raimo Savolainen, was completed in August 1985 and is located by the bank of the Kuopio Bay, just a few blocks from Kuopio's famous marketplace. It houses over 300 events annually and the attendance varies between 100,000-150,000.

The versatile facilities of the Music Centre are sensibly placed around the four-story high Hall of Light. The pride of the building is the Concert Hall, which has 1064 seats, with acoustics designed by professor Alpo Halme. The result has been widely applauded and the hall is perfectly suited both for classical and lighter music.

Kuopio Music Centre offers versatile and high class musical experiences for all music enthusiasts. The Kuopio Symphony Orchestra introduces guest conductors and soloists of international level nearly every week on the Concert Hall stage and the top artists of the Finnish schlager, pop and rock scene visit Kuopio Music Centre on their concert tours.

The Music Centre Concert Hall has also attracted several famous orchestras to give guest concerts in Kuopio (ie. Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra, the Mariinsky Theatre Orchestra from St. Petersburg and the Academy of St. Martin in the Fields). Thanks to the Concert Hall acoustics, many leading international record companies have also chosen the Kuopio Music Centre's hall for their recordings.

The educational establishments located within the walls of the Kuopio Music Centre - the Kuopio Conservatory, the Sibelius Academy Kuopio Department as well as the Music and Dance Academy of the Savonia University of Applied Sciences - offer high class education from toddlers to professional musicians.
